Student Government
The Student Government Association has been in existence on our campus for over ninety years. It was formed in order to facilitate, supervise, and unify matters of campus student governance. Each student pays an activities fee of $250 ($125 per semester) and is budgeted by SGA, which administers the Student Activities Trust Fund for all recognized clubs, organizations, and other student-centered activities. The Student Government Association, through its clubs, organizations, and committees, offers the college community a wide variety of activities and programs to fulfill educational goals. Several programs involve the North Adams community. These student managed organizations provide a means for students to express themselves in a professional and social environment. Elected positions of the Student Government Executive Cabinet are President, Vice-President, Coordinating Vice-President, and Student Trustee. Student Senators are elected representatives of the student body, empowered by the SGA to represent the needs of all MCLA students. Senator elections are announced and conducted annually. The Student Government Office maintains a file of the required nomination forms for use. Class Officers are directly involved in SGA and are responsible for building class unity as well as their class treasury. Class officers initiate and plan class events and activities and may coordinate programming with two or more classes and/or other student organizations. Fund raising activities are conducted to provide funding for class events; to supplement student fees; to finance the Senior Days program and to provide a class gift to the college. Elections are held annually to elect new officers and nomination forms can be picked up in the Student Government Office, third floor, Amsler Campus Center.
