"Transferring to MCLA was one of the greatest decisions I ever made. Being able to learn from and connect with the faculty and staff equipped me with greater networking capabilities/skills and the opportunity to use them outside of the institution, preparing me for the road ahead. Taking part and engaging in different clubs and organizations on campus helped to shape and guide me for countless opportunities."

A Gateway to the World...

Step into college and greet a world of learning. Our campus is more than a growing microcosm of world peoples. It is a gateway to travel, personal growth, and learning first hand about other people, other places. What better way to prepare for globalization than by experiencing it in college? International Studies - now or later - will change your life. Globalization of communication, commerce, arts and culture is revolutionizing societies everywhere. Future success in your chosen career will increasingly depend not only on professional expertise, but on personal familiarity with clients, customers and associates from different cultures. Your learning as an MCLA student studying in Africa, Asia, Europe, or the Americas will prepare you to meet tomorrow's challenges. It may also change your life.

International Studies at MCLA

Rather than a major, international studies at MCLA is an enhancement for all majors. Personal experience joined to knowledge of Latin Americans, Asians, Africans, or Europeans, will make you a better professional in whatever career you choose. And MCLA takes you in progressive steps from college classrooms to actually experiencing Mexico, Jamaica, China, England, Australia or virtually anywhere. We begin by offering international studies courses in academic disciplines and as general education. Many of the faculty who teach these courses also take students on credit earning tours abroad. And MCLA belongs to the Massachusetts Council for International Education (MaCIE) and the College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) and has recently added the Semester at Sea program. Through these associations and connections, we send students on semester or year-long programs to colleges around the world. At MCLA, your learning about the world begins locally and ends globally. These web sites show CCIS, MaCIE and Semester at Sea opportunities in detail.

College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS)

MCLA belongs to The College Consortium for International Studies, one of the oldest and largest international education consortia, links more than 150 fully accredited U.S. colleges and universities in a partnership dedicated to advancing international/intercultural perspectives in higher education.  Through its member colleges and universities, CCIS offers more than forty study abroad programs around the globe each year, for a semester, an academic year, or a summer. MCLA students enroll in CCIS programs and receive official transcripts from fully accredited U.S. colleges and universities which sponsor the programs, and which facilitate the transfer of credit for course work taken abroad. Programs are designed for cultural immersion, and many offer a chance to live with a family, which is an excellent way to accelerate language acquisition and to gain a working knowledge of the host culture. Experiential learning, through field trips and participation in various activities, is an integral part of the programs. Staff at the host institutions abroad work with U.S. students to help them gain themost from their experience. For additional information visit the CCIS website at http://www.ccisabroad.org/
