Harris J. Elder, Professor Office: Mark Hopkins 215A

Originally from Oklahoma, Harris Elder has been with the college since 1978. He received his Ph.D. in English from Oklahoma State University in 1979. Owing to military service, he has also lived in Texas, Illinois, Florida California, and the Republic of Vietnam. He was a United States Air Force avionics technician; favorite system to work was the SR71, also known as The Black Bird. His doctoral dissertation is on film adaptations; he has taught courses in that subject and in composition, public relations, radio production, film history, sports literature, and baseball history and literature. He has been a faculty advisor to WJJW-FM, the college’s radio station since 1978. He enjoys seeing the college’s alumni and attends every alumni gathering possible. Elder owns a large number of vinyl records, which he plays on a state-of-the-art turntable and high-end antique stereo electronics and speakers. Elder enjoys photography and bicycling, but his favorite pastime is sailing his boat on Lake George, New York.
