Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Description of Classes
Freel Library - Lower Level
Students must be at least 16 years old and officially withdrawn from school. Most students attend 2-3 classes a week. Classes are held in North Adams at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, in Adams at the Adams Memorial Middle School and in Williamstown at the Milne Library (only ESOL). The Schedule of Classes shows the times and locations of each class. The program supports and meets ADA standards. Handicap access and parking is available at all sites. Following is a brief description of each class:
GED (Preparation for the GED exam) - Classes cover material and needed skills to prepare for the GED exam. Classes are scheduled to allow learners computer and Internet access. GED classes are divided into two sections, ASE and PASE.
TECH (Adult Basic Technology) - Classes help students master basic computer skills including: use of the Internet, E-Mail & word-processing. Students have access to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts or Adams Memorial School computers and the Internet. No previous computer experience is necessary.
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) - Classes are for non-fluent English speakers who want to improve their English language skills. Curriculum is designed to help with personal, social and business communications as well as helping students prepare for U.S. Citizenship.
