Campus Facilities
MCLA is an impressive mix of the old and the new. Our campus is a blend of picturesque and historic buildings with roots in the late nineteenth century, and modern facilities with twenty-first century technology.
The Eugene Lawrence Freel Library
The College library offers students, faculty, administrators and staff access to information, technologies and services. Resources include over 170,000 volumes, subscriptions to over 2000 journals, over 200,000 microform units, 4000 videos, CDs and various multimedia packages. Through the library, MCLA participates in Central andWestern Massachusetts automated Resource Sharing (CWMRS), an electronic circulation system shared by 80 member libraries.
Academic Computing
Over 100 microcomputers, as well as several Netware and UNIX hosts, are available to support academic projects for students. Five general access labs offer office applications, web browsers, e-mail tools, and a variety of course specific software. Specific labs for students in Psychology, Computer Science, and other disciplines contain appropriate hardware and software for the study of those subjects. All computers in labs and residence halls can become part of a campus-wide network, which provides file services, e-mail, and Internet access to resources all over the world via two T1 connections. In addition to the resources of the World Wide Web, MCLA runs both Internet and intranet servers offering schedules, discussion groups, and course information.
Science Laboratories
Teaching and research are conducted in well-equipped laboratories that provide students with an interactive, hands-on experience to apply learned concepts. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment include microscopes, analytical balances and meters, lasers, telescopes, optical laboratories, and a new cell biology laboratory.
Performing Arts
Venable Hall Theatre is a 225-seat proscenium-type theatre with extended apron providing 1200 square feet of performance space, computer-driven lighting control, digital audio components and wireless hearing impaired system. Support facilities include a well-equipped costume shop, and an extensive prop and scene shop. Additionally, a 50 seat Black Box Theater is available for faculty and student use.
Church Street Center
Home to Fine and Performing Arts classrooms and the Lifelong Learning Office at MCLA, Church Street Center is a multi-purpose facility. Church Street Center is used to host on-campus receptions and speakers as well as musical and theatrical performances by visiting artists and members of the MCLA community.
